New Methods of Creation or Editing of Solids Defined by Profile Sketching.

If a solid is created by profile extrusion, rotation or lofting, it is permanently displayed. Sketching a profile, you can easily see how the result looks like. If you stretch or drag 2D objects, the solid is dynamically changed by cursor movement. Extrusion height, draft angle or rotation angle can be also defined by cursor movement. In such situations the solid is dynamically changed, too. Extrusion can be done both above or under the sketching plane (using positive or negative value for solid height). Displaying of created or edited solid can be vastly configured.

If sketched profiles cannot create a solid because of errors like gaps, intersections…, you can always click a corresponding icon to display cause of problem. If a solid can be created, you can finish it immediately without necessity to select 2D objects manually. It is possible to change solid properties like extrusion height, rotation angle, helix radius or other data whenever during profile sketching - not only at the end of sketching. Also, you can define method of solid creation during sketching of new profiles.

By default, and for light background, temporary created correct solids are displayed in green color. If the solid cannot be created, it is displayed in red color according to last correct situation.

You can transform sketching plane location (or base sketching plane for multiple planes) during sketching. This way, you transform a location of created or edited solid.

There are no mandatory changes of angle of view, if you sketch in 3D plane – like it was in previous versions, if the plane was close to parallel direction of view.

Solids Created by Multiple Sections Lofting.

For solid creation, you can use also multiple sketching planes. Each plane contains individual profiles (sections). These sections are lofted into a final solid. Each individual plane can be transformed relative to base plane. Sketching planes may not be necessarily parallel or rotated around rotation axis. However, their mutual position is permanently checked. Sketching planes are sorted automatically.

You can copy planes with their 2D objects or without 2D objects, you can select 2D objects and copy them into rest of sketching planes. Whenever you transform any plane, created solid is dynamically changed and displayed as well as during 2D editing or property changes. Sketching planes can be copied or dragged both above the base plane, or under the base plane.

Solid can be created also by connection of two selected planes, or you can connect the current sketching plane with another plane selected at a solid.

Predefined Volumes - Box, Cylinder, Cone….

Solids created as predefined volumes can be edited by changing spatial dimensions. A new feature allows you to click dimension arrow or witness line and then, change the dimension by cursor movement. This way you dynamically modify dimension together with the solid. You can conveniently use incremental cursor movement here.

The most obvious improvement is that you can select a direction the solid is stretched into. Although not all dimensions allow such an option, you may not need additional solid transformations after shape changes. If situation permits, you can stretch solid in one or opposite direction or in both directions symmetrically. The same options are available also in editing panel, if you want to define dimension from keyboard. Moreover, if you enter a parameter, selected direction of stretching is used after parameter changes.

If a predefined solid is inserted, you can right-click it and during its location definition, spatial dimensions are displayed and you can modify them – modify the shape during solid insertion.

More Convenient Methods of Insertions of Tools of Holes, Cuttings, Threads or Grooves.

If you want to drill a hole, cut a solid by box or use any similar predefined Boolean operation, a tool for such cutting is conveniently located according to where you click the solid. Axes of the tool are oriented according to location at a surface where you detected the solid. Moreover, if you want to drill a hole and if you click the solid right at another existing hole, the tool is located and oriented exactly according the detected hole.

New Possibilities of Solid Transformations.

A new feature allows you to define direction along or against a normal of detected surface. Unlike the previous possibilities, you can detect any type of surface (not only a plane), and you can move located objects by cursor over any surface. Transformation axes are permanently directed to keep the selected axis along/against a normal at a given location under the cursor. Insertion point is permanently stuck at a surface under the cursor. To locate definitively, you can simply left-click. Or, you can preliminary select an edge, center of edge or anything similar to locate objects exactly and simultaneously oriented according to surface and at the surface.

Also, you can zoom in on transformation axes or pan of view to move axes into viewport center. This is convenient if you want to see transformation axes, which may be outside the displayed space, at a last used location.

Possibilities to Temporarily Turn off Automatic Detection.

Sometimes it may be convenient to turn off automatic 3D or 2D object detection temporarily. It is especially, if you use dragging by cursor and if you have set cursor incremental movement. Then, you see exact distance. Objects detected under the cursor disturb smooth dragging.

Detection is turned off, if you drag 3D objects and press and held left mouse button. Objects are inserted when you release the left button. Detection is turned off for dragging, if you press and hold F1 key. If you press and hold F2 key, detection is turned off always. You can manage these features in “cfg” command.

Zoom, View Changes and Predefined Views.

By default, changes of zoom or 3D views (between front view, side view, predefined view …) are animated. This gives you better orientation, if the view is changed. You can configure or turn on/off the animation of view changes in command “cfg”.

Also, for new files, initial 3D view is predefined. Again, this feature can be managed in command “cfg”.

Construction and Temporary Construction Lines.

In 2D mode or in sketching in 3D, temporary construction lines (leading lines) are used. For drawing of lines, poly-lines, multiple lines or various cutting 2D lines, a horizontal and vertical construction line is created at a last location. Then, you can easily follow horizontal or vertical direction. The same method is used for 2D objects dragging or stretching. Leading lines are especially convenient in sketching in 3D, because you may not distinguish horizontal or vertical direction well. Current view may be however directed. In 2D mode, these lines are turned off by default.
