changing hatch pattern, density, etc
Hi,

According to the manual, it should be possible to change an already existing hatch pattern (Change Previous Hatch). How can one do it in practice?

If I choose Objects-->Draw-->Hatching-->Simple hatch (or Pattern Hatch), then the popping up toolbar has this Change Previous Hatch icon, but it's grayed and it is inactive. How can I select and change an existing hatch?

Thanks

If you choose Objects > Draw-Hatching > Simple Hatch (or Pattern Hatch), the icon "Change Previous Hatch" is active just before you confirm the selected hatch by the right click.
So when you are not satisfied with how the hatch pattern looks like, you can immediately change it.

You can also select from predefined patterns and also create your own patterns or edit existing ones. Please see Objects > Draw > hatching > Create Pattern.
changing hatch pattern + further hatching problems
Hi,
Thanks. I tried the following:
1) draw a rectangle ('Rectangle' icon)
2) Object > Draw > Hatching > Simple hatch
3) accept the pattern
4) select the rectangle, it becomes pink. The 'change previous hatch' is still grayed, inactive
5) right click to accept the selection, the hatch is created, without giving me the possibility to change it.
I guess this was the way you suggested, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Strange. VariCAD 2008 3.04, openSuSE 11.1

But let's suppose that this works. Even in this case, it is impossible to change a hatch pattern (or change its density, etc), once it has been created? The only way is to delete it, and begin from scratch?

I encountered another problem, when hatching 3D sections. I have an axially symmetric setup (for sipmlicity: a tube). See http://barna.web.cern.ch/barna/hatching.jpg for illustration.
The first column is a 3D section with a simple box. Hatching the 3D section works perfectly. However, I only want to show half of this 2D view with a symmetry axis. I tried two possibilities:
a) make a more complicated 3D section, which cuts off 3/4 of my tube. The automatic hatching of the 3D section fails (second column in the picture).
b) use the same simple box as sectioning tool, and clip the exported 2D view to a rectangular area (3rd column). In this case the hatching of the 3D section works nicely again, however, defining the clipping region in 3D space is only approximate, I am not offered to choose exact coordinates. That is, my exported 2D view is not really half of the symmetric view.
Any suggestions how to overcome this?

Thanks
changing hatch pattern
Hi.
I don't think 'change previous hatch' refers to some time previously, but to the immediately hatched area during a hatching activity. i.e. you hatch an area, and before you escape the hatching command you decide you want to change the pattern just completed because it doesn't look right, so you click on 'change previous hatch' and change the parameters. When you click on ok the hatch pattern updates.
